Minutes after today’s (August 24) opening bell, the market was down over 1,000 points. Donald Trump tweeted this morning:
“Markets are crashing – all caused by poor planning and allowing China and Asia to dictate the agenda. This could get very messy! Vote Trump.”
The sell-off is being driven by concerns about China’s economy. Many investors are worried that the Chinese market’s woes are indicative of sluggish economic growth in China, the world’s largest economy.
Trump has repeatedly slammed China throughout his presidential bid for currency manipulation and for its role in the outsourcing of American jobs.
In July, Trump said:
“When was the last time anybody saw us beating, let’s say, China in a trade deal? They kill us. I beat China all the time. All the time.”
